SHANNON DEFEATS FOXTON B. Shannon journeyed to Fox ton to meei the Foxton B team in the opening match of the season last Saturday, and had no difficulty in disposing them in the first innings for 26 and second innings 44; to which Shannon replied with 51 and 5 wickets for 86 runs. The play in general was not what it should have bepn, being a very poor , display, and Newth, capt. of Shannon Club, played havoc among the Foxton batsmen in their first innings securing 8 wickets for 15 runs. He was-assisted very ably by Hemmingsen and Spring. Moheky is, perhaps, the best batsman at present in the Foxton B team, he is not afmid or of the bowling, and laj r s in the fwood on the loose ones. He was top scorer for his side in both, innings. T, Blanchette and Walls were the Foxton trunfliers and they did very well indeed in .dismissing the Shannon side between them for the total of 51 runs. T. Spring and P. Morgan were the only two batsmen to double figures for Shannon and the former seemed quite at home until he put his leg in front when he appeared set. Foxton tried hard to pu'J the game out of the fire but Shannon t run fliers, Morgan, Spring, and Newth, proved too much, Morgan getting 6 for 12, Spring 2 for 8, and Newth 2 for 20. Shannon were 19 runs behinjQ Foxton's total , when they started their second innings, j Hemmingsen was beaten \by a good one i from Blanchette, when he had scored 7; Spring went out at 14, an<V Urquart added 54 runs for the 3 wicketc,, which decided the game.
