THE FOXTON ROAD.

WATER INCBEASING IN A r OLUME

The present condition of the flooded Foxton road, combined Avith tlie increasing head of Avater flowing through the Government drain, is not at all reassuring. A heavy fall of rain in the Slian-uou-Moutoa regions at an, early hour this morning has added to the volume of Avater covering Moutoa and Paialca, and although the Foxtoii-LeA'in mailman (Mr F. Bout) was successful this morning in guiding his car through the Ava-ter-covered road, he expressed* some doubt as to Avhether lie Avould attempt the return journey this evening, as the Avater Avas running over the road at a rate that seemed to presage the outlet of a large volume of pent-up water from the Moutoa lands. A brief survey of the locality Avould seem to suggest that the travelling public will not be able to'use the road before* Thursday, and should there be further rain the period Avill be even longer. The propinquity of Labour Day makes it desirable that the road shall be available for hse before Sunday as the increased traffic, Avhich follows as a natural sequence of holiday times, Avill do a good deal of damage to the LevinShannon road.
