THE TARARUA ROAD.

1N A BAD STATE. At Saturday's meeting of the Horowhcinux County Council, the Levin Dairy Company forwarded the following resolution passed at a recent meeting of Directors: "That the Council's attention he drawn to the very bad state of the Tararua road, the Company's lorry having broken numerous springs on this portion of the road. We j trust that this road will receive the Council's attention." In his report the engineer stated he estimated the cost of reconditioning this road at £IBO, but, in response to a question by Cr. Catley, he said there was £4O only on the estimates for this purpose. Cr. Catley: It is a question of finance, then? The Chairman: Yes, but we should strain the finances to do something if possible. At the same time the riding account must come out. square. He suggested that the councillors for the riding be a committee to see what could be done, with power to act. The thing was urgent and he supposed the money would have to be taken off somewhere else. The Engineer agreed that attention was badly needed on the Tararua road, but the timber traffic was responsible. The chairman's proposal to refer the matter to a committee, for action was adopted.
