AN UNUSUAL VISITOR.
KIWI FOUND IN WELLINGTON STREET. When, walking up Moleswortih St., Wellington, a few nights ago, Mr Relief of Poplar Grove, came upon what 'appeared, in the darkness, to be an enormous hedgehog. On closer inspection Mr Kellet received a decided shock when he discovered that he had found a kiwi. It had a deformed foot. Delighted at his discovery, Mr Kellet took the bird home, and put it in his back yard, where it soon began burrowing for worms. It is stated that fi. few weeks ago a large srhea was caught by.an oppcssuiu trapper in Westland and the police were endeavouring to gam possession of it. Apparently it vanished and as it is highly improbable that two such birds would have been i known at the same time to have suii fered damage to the feet, the belief is that the West Coast captive was brought here.
