OTAKI RACING CLUB'S REQUEST
An improvement of the Rahui-Te Roto Road comer was suggested to> the, Horowhenua County Council on Saturday. • . Messrs Eerc Nicholson and Wehipcihana waited on the Council on behalf of the Otaki Racing Club. Mr. Nicholson said the corner at the junction of the Eahui and Te Koto Roads was a very dangerous one and at race times the club had to statiom two or three men there to direct traffic. Ihc trees on the corner were the worst trouble. They asked-the Council to assist to improve the corner, either by having the trees cut back or some of the land taken under tlic Public Works Act. . Mr,. Wehipeihana said that if_ the trees were cut down to the fence for a
distance of two chains it would improve the corner very much but it would be better if a piece of land were taken. The chairman said the. Council had the power to require trees to be reduced in height if they were an obstruction to the traffic. The deputation t>aid the club was willing to assist in whatever expense was incurred by the Council. Cr. Ryder suggested that representatives, of the club, with the Couiily Works Committee view the corner and discuss its improvement with the owner ! of the land, and this course was agreed 1 to. The chairman said the County wouK go into the matter and expressed pleasure at the willingness of the club lu assist with the cost.
