A fashionably dressed woman, who broke the receiver and mouthpiece of a public telephone in a call-box at Marble Arch tube station because she did not get her number, was fined 40s and ordered to pay the damage, 10s at the Marylebone Police Court- on Saturday. She was described as Betty McKeown, aged thirty, a chambermaid, and she pleaded that she just tapped the mouthpiece and it fell to pieces. Ie appeared that having complained to the stationmaster at 11.45 the previous night that she could not get her call through she returned to the call-box and beat the mouthpiece with the receiver. the call-box acting almost like a lunatic, and she declared that she would smash the lot up if she could not get her number. He arrested her.
