HOROWHENUA PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

QUARTERLY MEETING. Mr P. W. Goldsmith presided at the quarterly meeting of the Horowhenua Patriotic Association' held in the Y.M.C.A. Also present—Messrs L. S. Howell, C. S. Keedwell, J. G. McLean, G. P. Catley. Leave of absence was requested by Messrs H. O. Whitehouse, E. Butt, H. Andrew, W. E Kilsby, and Mrs T. F. Gibson. It was decided to secure funds to the extent of £l4 10s for the purpose of erecting a memorial stone, at the grave of a local returned soldier, buried in the Levin cemetery. A subscription list had been opened and the secretary reported that the request had been sympthetically received by local residents, who were giving their support to the fund. The weekly reports from the War Funds Council, setting out tr.e nature and effect of its activities, weTe placed upon the table. Minutes of the Advisory Board were also submitted. I A letter of appreciation Horn a returned soldier was read, m which the writer thanked the Association for assistance given by wav of a loan Authority was given to refund the sum of 15s advanced by the Hawkes Bay War Relief Association to a . local returned soldier. The secretary was instructed to refund the sum of £3 10s, advances made by the Wellington War Relief Association to local men. Auckland War Relief Association were refunded £l—advances made. The meeting upheld the action of the secretary, in declining to give assistance to an applicant whose credentials were unsatisfactory. The sum of £66 was received, representing the balance of a soldiers loan. ' „„ An order for groceries, to the extent of £1 a week, was authorised.
