BUCKLEY DRAINAGE BOARD.
A meeting of the Buckley Drainage Board was held on Friday afternoon, when it was arranged that the trustees meet the representatives of the Horowhenua County Council to-mor-row afternoon to discuss matters in connection with the hoputaroa floodgate. Trustees Taylor, Peers, Swindiehqrst and H. Easton were appointed to represent the Board at the conference of local bodies to discuss the Manawatu Oroua Raver Board’s scheme to straighten the Manawatu River. Lengthy, correspondence was received from the -Department of Internal Affairs relative to tlie proposed alteration of boundaries of the Buckley Drainage district. It had been stated that the report of the Commission is ultra vires in that its recommendation involves the inclusion in the drainage district of a, greater area than that referred to in the petition praying for tlie alteration. This aspect of Hie matter has been fully considered, hut- the Department is of the opinion that the report of the Commission is' not ultra vires and that section 2, (3) Land Drainage Amendment Act, 1922, is sufficient authority for a Commission to recommend the inclusion of a larger area than that referred h> in the petition.
\ln a later fetter received it was stated that the alteration of the boundaries will be gazetted at a later date.
