“HOROWHENUA RUGBY COUNCIL.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. Mr J. J. O’Connor presided on Tuesday night at weekly meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council j Management Committee. Apology | for absence was receive from Mr H: !G. McDonald, "there being present Messrs W. Hannan, J. Procter, W. Moynihan, B. Brann, W. N. Anderson, W. Neville, J. Sciascia (Refer- ) ees’ Association), S. Austin, M. Wini) iata (selector), H. Lynch, J. Casey * (secretary), and J. Rammer (treas- ) urer)?’ CHALLENGE FROM DANNEVIRKE. Dannevirke Sub-Union enquired as to whether August 28th would be a date suitable for their playing Horowhenua for the Bebbington Shield.—Accepted. CLEARANCE GRANTED.
Oroua Sub-Union intimated its willingness to- perinjit A. Ward to complete the season with Levin Wanderers.
Mr Hannan, who handed in the letter, said he -had broached the subject in order to Obtain 'a ruling, as, according to the rules there shall be no transfers given after the first round closes. According to the rule he was not, therefore, a Horowhenua player. The chairman said this was a ruling of the Horowhenua District Council only. The by-laws of the Combined Council provided that a man must have been a resident for two weeks in a district before he can become registered with that union. Mr Anderson: I don’t think it a fair thing to allow this transfer. -In the past there has been a good deal •Of trouble with Nash Cup fixtures, through outside club players being included in a team. Thkt rule needs amending, because any .club could “ring-in” players of another union that had concluded their fixtures. Mr Procter: I think Wanderers are quite within their rights in playing this-man.
The chairman said there were two sides of the question. When a player came to the district as a bona fide resident it would be a hardship if he were not permitted to pjay. Mr Anderson said they were, opening up a very big question —bringing in players at- the end of the season. Mr Hannan stated that Ward had played for Hut Mai against Wanderers at Manakau on Saturday last, how did that affect the question? The chairman retorted that, even had Hui Mai won on points, they would have suffered disqualification through playing *an unregisteredplayer in their team. The speaker ruled that the clearance was quite in order. The discussion terminated at this juncture, Ward’s clearance being effective. i GENERAL. In the Southern Division of the Third Grade, Otaki ‘Maori College is declared the winning team with 17 points, Kuku coming next with 15, followed by Southern United 14 and Otaki 2 points.
