ACCLIMATISATION GAME FARM.
IMPROVEMENTS AT PARAPARAxnvrov 1 The. year ended 31st March, 1926, has been a busy one in th’e pheasant , department, and a considerable Vnumber of birds were (reared, purchased and liberated in all parts of the Wellington area. Mr. Trask, curator at the Game Farm, did not have a good .passage, many apparently well-developed chicks failing to break through the shell. The failure was probably due to lack of moisture, the temperature being unduly high. ' During the year further buildings were, erected, including hatching house, and more netted space. There are probably about 12 more stock birds at the Game Farm, making 33, these are picked birds of fine quality from J. Dobson and A. Wright. A telephone line has been laid, and anyione wishing to communicate with Mr. Trask should ask for 15r Paraparaumu. The Council proposes to push on with the attempt to stock the Society’s district with pheasants. The importation of Californian quail has tjeen turned down by the Department of Internal Affairs, owing to prevalence of foot and mouth diseases in California.
