FISHING WATERS.

LOCAL REPORTS. The Acclimatisation Society reports as follows: Pahautanui and Horokiwi Streams. These streams also flow into the Porirua harbour; accommodation at Pahautanui; course for each stream about five * miles; wadeable; gravel bottom; good landing; contains Brown trout. The Horokiwi Stream is improving and good sport was obtained during the 1925-26 season. An ideal dry fly stream. Waikanae Stream. Within few hundred yards of Wai- ~ kanae Railway Station; very good accommodation at Waikhnac; course about twelve miles; mostly wadeable; good landing; an ideal fly stream; good motor road to upper reaches;' contains Brown trout to 71bs,' weight in lower reaches., Tributaries of Waikanae stream include the .. Maungatukutuku, Ngatiawa and Mangaonc; all good fly streams. Anglers have obtained excellent sport in this stream and its tributaries with dry fly. Artificial, baits only are allowed to be used in the'Waikaiiac and tributaries above Buchanan’s house, which is roughly about two miles below Railway bridge. Mangaone Stream. Close to the Te Horo Railway station; good fly stream in early part of season; contains Brown trout. Artificial baits only are allowed to be used in this stream. Otaki River. Good hotel accommodation at Otaki; distance front river half a mile; shingle i bottom, with rock gorges in ,upper reaches; partly wadeable; course about thirty miles; contains Brown and Rain- ■ botv trout up to ten pounds’ weight; good niotor road for fifteen miles, the last three miles of road is alongside the Waiotouru branch of the river, where splendid sport is obtained. There are also good camping grounds alongside this branch of the river. Above the forks the river splits into three branches—the Waitatapia, ' Otaki and Waiotouru. , Waitohu Stream. A small stream a few miles north of Otaki; shingle bottom; wadeable; course about S miles; contains Brown trout; very suitable for dry fly. N Artificial baits only are allowed to be usefi in this stream. • Waikawa Stream. ’ Two miles to north of Manakau; good hotel accommodation at Manakau; course about 12 miles; contains Brbwn trout; a good fly stream in early part of season; also very good for use of dry fly. Artificial baits only are allowed to be used. Ohau River. Nearest hotel accommodation Levin, four miles away; good road to upper reaches; shingle bottom; wadeable; course sixteen miles; Brown trout; nearest railway' station Ohau, which is close to river. The tributaries of the Ohau comprise the Makaretu and the Makahihi; both, are very good dry fly streams. Artificial baits only are allowed to be used in the Ohau: and tributaries .above railway bridge. Horowhenua Lake. Two iUil.es from Levin; covers an area ofi 700'■acres; deep in parts; mud and sand bottom; contains Brown trout up to 141bs weight; fish seem difficult to catch from this lake. * Trout. Thousands Liberated in Lqcal Streams. For the • season 1925 no less than 51,000 brown fry were liberated in Levin, 30,000 in the Waitatapia (Otaki Gorge), and 30,000 at Waikanae. Some 15,000 rainbow fry werte distributed in the Waiotaura (Otaki), 500 brown yearlings in/the Waitatapia (Otaki), and 500 at Levin. No less than-1000 rainbow yearlings w r ere distributed in the Waiotauru (Otaki).
