LOAN PROPOSALS.

£7OO LOAN CARRIED BY BIG MAJORITY. Yesterday the poll was taken' on the proposals to raise £IO,OOO for new municipal theatre and social hall, and for £7OO for additions to and renovating the present building. Mr J. T. Bovis acted as returning officer. During the morning, very few ratepayers exercised their right, but late in the afternoon a fair number of votes were recorded, a total of 158 ratepayers voting out of 320 -eligible to vote. As anticipated tile £IO,OOO proposal was easily defeated, only 22 voting in favour, while there were 112 against, there being 24 informal votes. The £7OO proposal which, had been before the ratepayers some few months ago when it was defeated toy nine, was carried by a nearly two to one majority, 92 voting in favour and 53 against, there being 13 informal votes. The result was announced shortly after 7 o’clock, there being very few present to hear the result. The following are the figures:— £10,00;! LOAN. For 22 Against ... ... ... 112 Informal 24 £7OO LOAN.
