KOPUTAROA—BUCKLEY ROAD.
HIGHWAY BOARD’S DECISION.
An enquiry was made 1 by Or. Catley at Saturday’s meeting of the Horowlienua County Council as to the late of the recent agitation for a .diversion of the Main Highway North from Ihakara as at present to via Koputarou.
The Chairman said the matter did not come to the Council at all. The local Committee moved through’ the member for the district, ■ and the Highways Bpai’d instructed the District Engineer to report on the proposal. The report went to the Minister for Public Works, who when he had considered it would send it to the Member for the District. When he got it he would hand it to the Buck-ley-Koputaroa Committee. It had nothing to do with the Gounty. Cr. Catley: It is strange then that the work was stopped oin the ihakara route.
The chairman indicated--that he knew the tenor.of the report but could not divulge - it. "We have now got authority to get on with the work on the Ihakara route,’' he said.
The Engineer: We have had all our plans approved and sent back. Cr. Kilsby said it was a fact that the local Committee got in touch with Mr Linklater and asked hint to push the matter before the Public Works Department and get an estimate of the cost.
The Chairman: A fortnight ago the report went to the Minister. Cr. Kilsby: I suppose we will get it in due course.
