MAIN HIGHWAYS WORK.

THIRTY MILES OF SURVEY, FINISHED. WORK COMMENCED ON NORTH ROAD. The County Engineer (Mr W. N. Anderson) reported as follows to Saturday’s meeting of the Horowhenua County Council: — "Owing to the very wet and rough .weather, Main Highways work has been hindered a good deal. The survey work is nearing completion on the Otaki Railway—Manakau Bridge section and the plans are well in ,hand and should be ready for approval within the inext (three weeks, making 30 miles of survey completed. The formation work at Waikanae is practically finished and a start will soon be made with similar work between Te Horo and Waikanae. "Another start has been made with the formation on the Levin-Potis Road section on the Lev in-Palmerston North Highway,'and is progressing in a satisfactory manner. I hope to be able to start a gang between Otaki Bridge and Te Horo within the next day or two. “The bitumen gang has completed the. penetration work for the season and a start was made 'with the top dressing coat but ha® been very much delayed by wet weather. However, the weather now appears to be clearing and no time will be lost to complete the work.
