Tile annual* seven-a-side tourney held at Palrnerston North Show grounds yesterday provided a good day's sport. The 1 weather was glorious, but the attendance was not so large as last year. Shannon was represented in the senior and' junior contests and MiranuL in the third grade and juniors. Miranui in the first round of the third grade went under to. Western United by 21 to'nil. In the junior contest this club's representatives did better. Along with Shannon they drew a bye in the first spell, meeting Shannon in the second who they defeated by 4 to 3 after a good game. In the third round they defeated St. Patrick's College by 3 to nil, thus reaching the semi-final dn which they met Oriental and after a very even flutter, an 'extra ten minutes' play was necessary to decide the victory, Ramsay (Oriental) landing a penalty goal. Oriental in turn being defeated in the final by Hutt by three to nil. "■

In the senior contest, Shannon in the first round, won .by default from Old Boys B. They met Oriental in the second'round and lost 'by 10 to 3. For the winners tries were scored by Wyman and Chambers, Williams converting both. Pickard kicked a penalty for Shannon. The final was played off between Kia Toa A and Oriental and proved a close game, the Palrnerston North team securing the Thompson-Payne Cup by the narrow margin of three points'to nil. The winning try was scored by Leeder, as the result of a long .pass sent toy Mullins to Strange, who, after racing for some fifteen yards, handed the ball over to Leeder.
