Mr W. Murdoch, who now resides a.t Te Roii, Taranaki, is at present visiting Shannon.

The many friends of Miss Sinclair, infant mistress at tlie Shannon School, will be sorry to learn that she has been unable to resume her duties at the school since the term holidays, owing" to illness.

A Queen 'Carnival is being held at Moutoa to raise funds .towards paying off the debt on 'the Moutoa Hall. With a view to assisting the fund the Farmers' Queen are holding a dance an Tuesday evening in the Parish Hall. The music will toe supplied by H. George's Orchestra and as only a small charge is toeing made a large attendance is expected.

• With a view to presenting the accumulation of water on Nathan Terrace, which has been caused by the water from the street channels being carried through the railway yards to that spot, the borough workmen are at present engaged in .digging a drain, which will be piped, in Pliinmer Terrace, to carry the water from the Post Office corner along Pliinmer Terrace, emptying into the creek. The accumulation of water in the past has been very objectionable to property owners in that vicinity and the action of the Council in endeavouring to prevent further trouble in that direction will be appreciated. by those property owners interested.

A collision between two motor cars, occupied by Dr. Wyllie and Mir -R. Bryant, l both of Foxtan, occurred at the intersection of two roads at Himi-tangi-last evening. Both cars were overturned and the occupants pinned beneath. Neither of the occupants, were seriously injured. Mr Bryant suffered slight concussion and cuts about the head, and body bruises. Dr. Wyllie got off with little damage. Both oars were badly smashed.

"Gates" at football matches in Levin aire growing with each Saturday's game, the crowd is most orderly and football never more popular, according to the statements of several menitoars of the management committee of the Horowhenua District Rugby Council at the an eating last night. Players and spectators were beginning to realise that the referee had sole charge of the game and matches were conducted far more smoothly than in previous years.
