RUGBY FOOTBALL.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING.
•The Management Committee of the Horowhenua District Rugby 'Council •met last evening, Mr J. J. O'Connor occupying the chair, Messrs J. Runnier (treasurer), J. Procter, j. liobson, B. Brann, W. N. Andersan, H... Lynch, W. Haiman, N. Einmett (Referees' Association) and J. Casey (.secretary) were also present.
OTAKI SUSPENDED
Last week Otaki was one of the two clubs warned that if their affiliation and insurance tees were not forthcoming by Tuesday night, they would be suspended. The secretary reported that one club had complied with the regulation but Otaki had failed to: do. *
It was decided that the Otaki Club be .suspended until their dues have been paid. ' • i
FIXTURES ALLOTTED
The secretary asked .permission' for the Levin D.H.School to play Selwyn 6th grade on the Levin Domain-on June 3rd; also for Wanderers thirds to play Kuku. Shannon seniors also asked to be permitted to play Mungahao at Shannon on sth June. Permission was granted in all three cases. TRANSFER REFUSED. W. Gleeson applied for a transfer from Otaki to Huli Mai.—Refused on the ground that Otaki are suspended and the application cannot be considered .until the club is reinstated. FOOTBALL DONATED. The Paekakariki School thanked the Union for. the donation of a football—Received. SPORTSMANLIKE ACTION. The Foxton Club asked that both matches'-between them and Southern United shall be played in Levin, in order to facilitate the travelling arrangements of the latter club. The secretary advised that no replyhad been received from Southern United and the matter would have to be left in abeyance meanwhile. PLAYING-AREA GRANTED. Mr A. Wood, 'Shannon, expressed pleasure in granting permission for the Union to use his ground during the .1926 season, giving them .ptfwer to enforce the rules governing football matches.—-Received, Mr Wood having been previously thanked for his offer. PROTEST LODGED. Tokomaru J miliars protested against Hui Mai having included an ex-H.au-raki Plains senior player in their ranks in the Tokomaru-riui Mai game on Saturday. -
It is' alleged that Silberry, the player referred to, played senior football in his old djstrict this season. The matter is to be investigated, Silberry will stand down in the meantime.
FRIENDLY GAMES
It was decided that all matches, other thair senior, scheduled to take placo on June 19th, which is the date of the Manawatu-Hoirowhenua rei-). match, are to be postponed. In this connection it was decided that the third grade Wand / erer.s—Foxton match shall be played as a curtainraiser to the principal game. ( MORE WRONG JERSEYS.'
Piper, a Hui Mai junior player, was fined -2s 6d for having worn a wrong jersey in the Htii-Mai—WerarOa junior game on Saturday. DEFAULTING CLUB FINED.
Mr Emmett said tliat no notice had been tendered to the Referees' Association by Tokouiaru Juniors, when they defaulted to Miranui on Saturday last. The referee had travelled to Miranui from Koputaroa, but on arrival had .been info.ui.ed there would be no game. In addition there had been gate-keepers' expenses and the spectators' money refunded. Mr Enimeittt asked that Miranui be fined 5s under Rule 8 of the District Council regulations. This" breach and lack of thought on the part of the defaulting team occasioned some remarks of strong disfavour from members of the committee, who unanimously decided to impose the fine laid down iin the rule quoted above. MAORI—PAKBHA MATCH.
■ "Dewar's Imperial Trophy" is the name of the new shield or cup (it is uncertain what form it will take) given by Messrs T. and W. Young, on behalf of their principals, for annual competition between two rep. Maori and pakeha teams.
No arbitrary conditions have been laid down toy the donors as to when the maitch shall take place in each year, but Mr Rimnie.r, who was largely the means of securing - the cup for the Horowhenua district, said thatthe match might be played .between the first and second rounds. It was, however, pointed lOfuti Uliat the Union would have to take advantage of every available playing 1 Saturday throughout the current season as already there were several other fixtures, and it was desirable to preserve the continuity of games. Following a discussion it was resolved to play the first match .on Wednesday, .Tune 9th, at Levin. In the ensuing three years Otaki, Foxton and Shannon will draw for the game, after which it will again fall to Levin, and to the three other towns according to the 'ballot result. For this match, Mr J. J. O'Connor has been appointed associate selector with Mr M. Winiata, . Mir Rimmer (remarked, in proposing a, cordial vote of thanks to Messrs T. and W. Young, that the trophy will be well worth the winning, and a fine incentive for players to give of their utmost, on behalf of the game.
OTAKFP FEES PATH. The amount owing by fh-e Otaki Club was received this morning by
the secretary of the Union and the suspension is therefore lifted.
