A LONG-LOST NEEDLE.

RECOVERED AFTER 34 YEARS

A young lady at Tinumi, while engaged in sewing 34. years ago, had the misfortune to run the needle into her hand. It broke, and the portion embedded" in the flesh was not recovered. The victim felt from the outset thai there remained in her hand a piece of the needle, but at that period MioilCO had not reached such a stage as to-day, and although she experienced some inconvenience she suffered in silence, hoping and believing that time would free her from the unwelcome visitor. But years passed and the missing needle was to some extent forgotten. A few days ago, says the Timaru Post, the lady had a reminder of the presence of the needle an inch i n length. Her hand became almost paralysed, with acute pain below the wrist. Medical aid was sought 'and by the use of the X-ray the missing needle was discovered and removed, ' with instant relief to the patient. The needle which had been in the lady's flesh for more than thirty years, was coated with rust. The evil effects which recently appeared are fast disappearing since the removal of the metal, but medical opinion is that had it not been removed permanent paralysis of the arm would in'evitably have resulted.
