YEAR’S POWER EXTENSION.

REVIEW OF THE WORK. Anlongst Hie reports presented to the annual meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board last week was an interesting summary of the year’s work by the Electrical Engineer, Mr J. A. Smith, A.M.I.E.E. It was as. follows: — “STEADY PROGRESS.” During the year ended 31st March, 1926, steady progress has been made in the construction of the Board’s Electrical undertaking. The main high tension lines having been constructed during the previ-s ous year,, the following high tension lateral lines have been /completed durig the last 12 months: Tokomaru extension, Kingston Road, Buckley R;oad-Koputajroa, Heatherlea-Wiro-kino, No. 6 Line (Foxton), Keri Keri Road, Muhunoa East, West and Kuku, Manakau North Road, Te Horo Loop extension, Te Horo Beach, Waikanae Beach, Rcikorangi Valley, Paraparauinui Beach, Paraparaumu Valley, Raumati. MILEAGE OF LINE-433. During ' Total 1 March ' 1925-26 1926 Route miles of—-3-wire E.H.T. 32.36 136.43 3-wiire L.T. 66.59 173.32 Street LightingSingle wire 60 46.10 Double wire ••• 2.35 7.35 Service lines 33.37 70.07 Streets Lamps— ; .Series 13 248 Parallel 15 59 OVER 2000 CONSUMERS. The load on the system has developed rapidly; 73 'industrial motors aggregating 1303.5 h.p. ranging from | h.p. to 175 h.p. have been connected during the period; also 152 milking machine motors. The ranges connected number 104 and the indications show that they are becoming so popular and useful, that a large number more will be in service before very long. 220 waterheaters were connected up. The number of con sumers connected was 755, bringing the total up to 2219. The total connected load to date is 4975.2 TOTAL 1 LOAD—2O36 HORSE-POWER.

GREAT INCREASE IN -MAXIMUM ’ DEMAND. Some idea of the extent which these added connections have made to the maximum demand from the Mangahao Power Station, can be gathered from the following figures, which give a good indication of the progress made:— Maximum, demand quarter ended 31st March, 1925.-410 K.W. at 83 P.F.; actual K.V.A. 493.9. Maximum demand quarter ended 31st March, 1926.—1384 K.W. at .90 P.F.; actual K.V.A. 1538. CAREFUL WORKERS. I would like to record the consideration which the chairman and members of the Board, have always shown ’to' the. Engineering Staff, and men working thereunder, during the past year, and persoallv express my appreciation of the loyal and willing service rendered by the officers and men directly under me. Due to the care exercised by all concerned, I am pleased to report that no serious accidents, disabling men for more than a week or two, have happened. The chairman moved that the Engineer be thankeri for his comprehensive report. Mr Gunning seconded the motion, which was carried.
