During the month just past 34 new consumers have signed up with the Ho.rowhen.ua Power Board. There have also been 13 additions to existing installations, 7 ranges, 7 milking motors and 17 waterheaters have been connected up. The Auckland Provincial Farmers' Union adopted a remit by the Ex<’endive, “That the conference views with alarm the disproportion of Government advances made upon non-pro-ductive security as against rural security.” It was stated the proportion was 95 per cent, in the cities and 75 per cent, ou rural securities. It is always pleasing to hear of the advancement of y-Gii*mg New Zealanders and in this connection we are pleased to mention the name of. Mr John M. Frankland, who last year won honour at Yale University, lie having been awarded the Barge Memorial prize for the best sophomore paper in mathematics. The award carries a. bronze medal and a 250 dollars cash prize. Mr J. M. Frankland who is in his 20th year, is a son of Mr Herston Frankland, of New York, and grandson of the late F. W. Frankland, an : eminent, actuary. Both parents and grandparents of the, young man have relatives in Foxton and were also well-known and highly esteemed erstwhile residents.
