POPPY DAY, 1926.
These pq-ppies coming year by year Remind us of our brave sons dear, Who shed their' pulsihg blood. Loyal untoi death, they did not flinch, But boldly crossed toe last dark trench. To the presence of their God. Heroically their lives did give, That you and I in peace might live. Oh! God, they did their part. God help us then ne’er to* forget. Their lives and deeds are living yet In each true British heart. f f No mind or lips can ever tell How those courageous brothers For brotherhood of man. No guns or bombs could check their zeal For freedom-peace, this great ideal Each held and forward ran. For King, and Empire, was tlieir cry. We conquer, or we each will die. For dear old British throne. Thank God, who stood them in tlieir need, Gave strength to -each, through Christian creed, To die for those at home. We lift the banner where they fell, Their death cries out to us to- tell We have our part to play. We too must make a sacrifice, That every heart and soul rejoice, In -one long peaceful day. Christ brought good tidings, unto man A peaceful Christian life His plan. 6 let His will .be done. Blot out, oh God, the stains of war, Cause love to shine like Bethlehem star. On earth Thy kingdom come. —T. Hensman, Shannon.
