WATER ON .THE MAIN ROADAs a result of the heavy rain a flood came down the Manawatu river on Wednesday, and during the night those settlers residing on its banks at Moutoa had an anxious time. Several kept watch, as it was reported there i was a likelihood of the riven Overflowing its banks. The river con- j tlnued to rise until 3 a.nx on Thursday morning and at that hotur the water was running bank high. Fortunately there has been no further rise. Yesterday afternoon it was reported that the volume of water was receding 1 . - The water was up to the top of the cutting at the approach to the punt, the road from -the ramp being under water. . There was a sea of .water from the ramp near the old bridge stretching towards Shannon; this being caused by the drains overflowing. ' A quantity of water was lying on the main road this side of the Miranui mill yesterday morning vehicular traffic being held up for some time. It was reported to be about two feet deep;, covering a distance of about fifteen chains. This was caused by the Kara Greek overflowing, owing to the banks which the MaJser.ua Drainage Board recently constructed, not being connected up. ; The low-lying country at Buckley was under water on Wednesday.
