A COMING CHAMPION.

LEVIN! JERSEY MAKES GOOD SHOWING. An outstanding butterfat record for a £-year r old' Jersey is on the eve of completion by a heifer, Holly Oak Contessa, owned by Mr J. R. McDonald, of "Healheirlea,"' Levin. Up to date this heifer has made 6951bs butterfat in 340'days. She has still -25 days to complete heir test, so, with the best of luck she will have no difficulty in exceeding the present highest record for a. senior' 2-year-old (7151b5). Throughout her test Mr McDonald's heifer lias had very little supplementary feeding, received only bran, and for the first half of her test, a few Mooise nuts. The record of this heifer is .not to be wondered at when one studies her pedigree. Her sire, Grannie's Knight C. 8.8., owned' by J.Hale, of "Holly Oak," New Plymouth, is best known as the sire of the empire champion, Holly Oak Annie (which produced 105611ns i>utterfa.l) and over 40 other tested daughters with records nip to 7121b5. fat. The dam of Holly Oak Contessa, Lambert Countess,, put up a very creditable record of 6571bs of fat from three quarters, and is one of the best daughters of her sire, Exile of Oaklands, who is also the sire of the ex-champion butterfat cow, Pretty's Flirt (1010 fat). Mr McDonald is to be congratulated on the record of his valuable heifer, which is certainly a, credit to the district.
