A CURIOUS ACCOUNT
The most curious bill ever presented was probably the following, made out uy a Belgian painter, who had been employed renovating an old churc v. Being hsked to supply the details of His account of £l7 10s sd, he seat in the following: “Corrected the Len Commandments, £1 10s; embellished Pontius Pilate, and put a ribuou m his bonnet, Ss Id; put a new tail on the rooster of St. Peter, and his comb, 12s; re-plumed and gildedthe right wing of the Guardian Ange , 15s 6d; washed the servant of- the High Priest and put carmine on his cheek, Is; renewed Heaven, adjusted two stars and cleaned the moon, H iGs; re-animated, the flames of Purgatory, and restored souls, £6 7s; revived the flames of Hell, put a new tail on the Devil, mended his left hoof, jaid did several jobs for the damned, £1 16s 6d; re-bordered\ the robe of Herod, and re-adjusted his wig, 17s ad; put new spotted dashes on the son of Tobias, and dressing on his sack, 7s Gd: cleaned the ears of Balaam s Ass and shod him, 9s; put ear rings in the ears of Sarah, 9s 2d; put a new stone in David’s sling, Is 8d; decorated Noah’s Ark, £1 4s Gd; mended the shirt of the Prodigal Son and cleaned Ins ears, 15s 3d; total, £l7 10s sd.
