ELECTION OF COUNCILLOR.

ON THURSDAY NEXT. The extraordinary election for a councillor, brought about by the election of Mr E. Butt to the Mayoralty, will be held on Thursday next. Three nominations have been received for the vacancy, viz., Donald McLaggan, Arthur Henry Richards, and George Thomas Watkins. All three gentlemen are well-known residents of the town and there should be a good contest for the vacancy., The Council Chambers will be the polling place and tlie booth will open at 9 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. The result of the poll should ibe known shortly after seven o'clock.
