DEPUTATION FROM ATHLETIC CLUB.
': A deputation from the Shannon ; Athletic Club consisting of Messrs i White, Brann and Cuxran, waited on the Borough Council on Tuesday evening with a request that when the ■ Council frame the estimates for the ensuing year for work to be carried j out at the Domain that financial can't sideration be given to the Athletic ! Club's efforts; also that the Club j would like to be represented- on the j Reserves Committee. J Mr White, who .acted a© spokes- ' man, said he -understood that on a ' previous occasion sports bodies had been represented on the Reserves Committee. If the Council could entertain the idea they would like to have two representatives to work in conjunction with the committee, who would be able to watch over the Club's interests on the Domain. He did not think they would be a hindrance, but would"" be a help to the qommititee. He said they had in mind only the general improvement of the ground. They would like to have the cycle track widened at the turns, also tar sealed. • Mr Curran also spoke in favour of the request. He pointed out that the Club.felt they would like to have a say as to how the money should be I spent. I ' The Mayor stated that Mr White had been, misinformed as to outsiders being'represented on the. Reserves Committee. The only occasion representatives of sports bodies had worked in conjunction with the Reserves Committee was when the Carnival money was being, spent. He would not favour the Aithletic Club -being represented on the committee. The deputation- then withdrew and the Council discussed the request. The Council, were opposed to the Club being represented on the Reserves , Committee. It was pointed out that representatives of 'the Club could al- ! ways meet the Reserves Committee j and put fiOTward , any (suggestions, . and, tlie Council could call on mem-. bers of the Club for their co-operation j and advice. In respect to the financial question, this was left in abeyance until after the election of the new councillor, which takes place next week.
Cr. Thwaites suggested that the Council and sports bodies should each contribute towards the appointment of an official caretaker, .who would keep an eye on the Domain and do any little jobs for a. few shillings a week.
