SHANNON v. MANAKAU.. The inter-club matches are still provoking unflagging interest and even in face of adverse weather the competition still remains unretarded. Shannon met Manakau at the Levin ground on Thursday last, the former proving victorious by an almost 100 per cent, score, the figures being Shannon 93, Manakau 49. In the singles, Mrs Brown (5) beat Mrs Merrick (11), 36—5, whilst Mrs Capes (8) won by a slightly lesser margin from Mr s Bowling (IS) with a score oif 26—10. Mrs Aim and Mrs McLaughlin (1& each) v. Mrs Nees and Mrs Eivans (12 each) produced a final result of 14—26. Mrs Mason and Mrs Roach (12) each won their rubber with Mrs Dalzell and Mrs Hornig (12 each), they proving the winners by 26— S. In each of "the foregoing instances Shannon players are mentioned first. ■< FOXTON v. OTAKI. Foxton (98) and Otaki (85) played on Tuesday afternoon, under conditions which were by no means propitious, and their sportsmanship, proved a big encouragement to the spectators. As manifested by the scores, practically all the games were of an even nature and were provocative of much excitement far onlookers and players. alike. In all the ensuing scoring Foxton, the winners are shown first. The singles ! showed Mrs Woods' (5) lose 'to Mrs Noble (8) 26—25, Mrs Moore (7) retaliating by winning from Mrs Evans (9) by 26—19. In the doubles, Foxton and Manakau each wojn a game, Mrs Owen (5) and Mrs Bryant (8) beating Mrs Oliver (8) and Mrs Gillespie (12) with a score O'f'26 to 14. Mrs Parkes (7) and Miss Wanklyn (8) made a score of 21 to 26 gained by Mrs smith (11) and Mrs Wyatt <11). Otaki have completed their round, but there still remains two days more in which to finalise the competitionLevin v. Manakau to-morrow, Foxton and Shannon next Tuesday. This competition has been very effective in providing the necessary stimulus to croquet, not only in Levin but in adjacent towns as well, which means an even stronger following during, next season.
