SHANNON LOSE TAKAHO' CUP. On the local green on Saturday afternoon a rink from the Northern Cluib met the holders of the T/alcaro Cup which had been won by them recently. Alter-a very interesting game the challengers secured possession of the cup by one point, secured on the last head. The first two heads went to Shannon for three; the next three heads made the score level and then Shannon got one for the 6th head, making' the score 4 to 3.. The home team failed to register a point in the next five heads, and Northern had piled up 1-2 to 4. At the 12th head Shannon got going again and they were four up. They missed on, the next head, but' followed up with two ■threes. On the 18th head, the links were 15 all and on the 20th head they were level again with 17. The last head went to Northern ; thus giving theni'the victory. . •The rinks were:—-Northern: P. Mcllardy, F. Th'ornley, Palmer, Humble (skip); Shannon: Morgan, Conquest, Murray, Gagliardi (skip).

Diallengers for ttie Kinneburgh Feathers came and go with monotonous regularity, each week recording one eluib or other that is anxious to wrest the trophy from Levin. Saturday marked the louaiteenth occasion upon which the holders lirave been called upon to defend their right of retaining the Feathers .since the Dub •annexed them from Otaki, last year. Shannon was the latest competitor, but the'home team'-had itoo much in reserve, and the visitors were defeated with a score of 37—15 against them. They were represented by Bbvis, Brann, B. Spencer and E. Spencer; (s), whilst the rink which vanquished tlie Shannon men consisted of Fyke, Brown, Bull and Suhan (s). Each clu(b has its adherents and supporters whose unselfish attention to the' clulb's well-being is a beacon light to their fellow-members. Of such are Mrs de Malmanclie and Mr W. Bull, whose approaching marriage was on Saturday made the subject ol congratulatory reference when Mr Pykc, • Dub President, presented them with a silver entree dish, the, presentation being made on* behalf of che club members , and the ladies' 'committee. The promotion of the club's social side by Mrs de Malmanclie and the popularity of Mr Bull, both as a past-president and an old member of the club, and their many ' fine attributes were also referred to by the President, the undoubted es- , teem in which they are. held by their fellow-clubmen being reflected in the applause [ accompanying the presentation. Mr Boyis, President of the Shannon Club made an appropriatelyhumorous speech in wtiLcli he tendered the recipients a few words of an observer's advice. ..Mr Bull aptly responded, after which the assemblage •j 11 sang "For they are jolly good 1 fellows."
