SOME CLOSE CYCLING EVENTS. AUCKLAND, March 8. Seven thousand people' were present at the opening of the Blandford Park stadium on Saturday night. The scratch race in which five men started from the mark in a one mile cycle event was) won by Nicholson of Auckland, who got a jump in last half lap while Horder and O’Shea were watching each other and this enabled Nicholson to win by a .wheel from O’Shea who beat Horder hy inches. Time 2PJt 3-5. O’Shea 1 got the verdict against Horder by a wheel in winning the three lap open race, but Horder easily disposed of all opponents in a sprint race of one lap in whio he was giving away up to 70 yards.
