THE MAYOR RESIGNS.
TO TAKE EFFECT FROM MARCH 9. At the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Hits Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) informed the councillors that though it. was much against his will, lie had decided to leave Shannon, his medical adviser having definitely stated lie had got to go; therefore.he had made up his mind to resign. He intimated that his resignation would take effect from March 9th. Cr. Spencer, on behalf of the councillors, said they would all be very sorry to lose him, but they will be pleased to learn that by the move he has benefited in health. He trusted they would he able to keep in touch with him and he felt sure he would always have the good wiishes for the progress of Shannon. The Mayor's resignation coming before March 31st, will necessitate a bye-election for the Mayoralty, which must take place within 26 days from the date of the resignation. A public meeting is to be called for 'Friday evening, March sth, for the purpose of arranging a public sendoff to Mr Murdoch. The Borough Councillors and the staff wSfll tender Mr Murdoch a social evening , on ' March 2nd.
