SHANNON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The above meeting was held in the Goiuncil. Chamber on Thursday evening. The President (Mr A. E. Hyde) was in the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. FIRST HE HAD HEARD OF IT. From the Chairman of No. 9 District Council of the Main Highways acknowledging receipt of letter in reference to the suggestion that consideration be given to making the main highway from Levin to Shannon via Koputaroa. He stated that this was the first he had heard of any proposal to alter the present declared main highway, and that he .would toning the question up at the meeting of the District Council which is to toe held shortly. POSTAL IMPROVEMENTS. From the Postmaster (Mr Jones) a.c knowledging receipt of letter re sorting and forwarding the night mail, also the installation at the Post Office of a slot and stamp machine, which he stated he had forwarded to the chief office for consideration. A NEW ROAD. The Pahiatua Chamber of'Commerce wrote .regretting that they cannot support the Chamber's proposal for the construction of a road from Shannon to Eketahuna. THE SHANNON BRIDGE. On tlie motion of Mr Franks it was resolved to write to Mr Linldater, M.P. asking him to urge upon the No. 9 Highway Board the necessity .for urgent action regarding the bridge over the Mainawatu, pointing out that many months have passed and no report of the survey is yet to hand and that settlers aresuffering acutely by the unnecessary delay.
