A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE The General committee of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association met in the Secretary's Office last night, 23 members, under the chairmanship of Mr S. A. Broadbelt, being present. Apologies, for absence were received from Messrs G. Tully, J. W. Procter, D. W. Matheson, and C Sherwood.

Correspondence, as. under, was dealt with:— The Hon. J. G. Coates, Prime'Minister, replying to the Association's invitation to perform the Opening ceremony on the 27th January, advised that he was at present unable to definitely accept until his New Year itinerary had been ■ arranged. ■ In response to the appeal for assistance, made through the press by the President, Mr S.' A. Broadbelt, an offer was received from Mrs S. S. Watkins, Weraroa, to take charge of the ladies' cloak room on both days of the ghoiw, without remiinetrartion.—Mrs Watkins' offer was gratefully.accepted. The tender of Mr J. Behbington for the booth privileges on both days of the Show was accepted. The Grounds Gom.nii.ttc© reported that the four skeleton cattle-sheds had been completed and that the pig-shed would be finished to-day. Useful work was done by the working bee, but at the same time the Committee pointed out that there was still a good deal of voluntary work in' order to complete the Show arrangements. A working-bee was formed for to-day, and a further one is to be held on Wednesday, the 13 th instant. It was decided to accept the offer of Mr A. L. Williams to sdo the catering for the Show. Messrs Broadbelt and Matheson .were elected as a coimnittee to wait upon - the Sports Bodies' Carnival Committee and diseiuss a joint effort to raise funds.

The President reported he had inicH'viewed Messrs Scott and Sullivan who had kindly offered to arrange a picture benefit for tin Association on Thursday next. Messrs S. A Broadbelt, G. ■■ Tully, and G. H. King were elected to act as a protest committee. The secretary suJbmljtted a statement showing that the total cost to date of the recent improvements was £273 15s Id. The action of the Grounds'Committee, in removing the pig pens and roofing same was ap^. proved. Mr R. V. Brown stated it was difficult to obtain the necessary green feed for the show stock, and any donations of feed would be gratefully received. As the Show has an added feature in the Dog Section this year, involv- ; ing not a little' expense in the way of ' marquees, etc., the Dog Committee proposed that -in, order to assist, tliis section for the first year, a charge of one shilling per head be made for admission. The matter was fully discussed by the meeting, and it was finally decided not to make any further charge to the Dog Section* of the Show. . The Levin Band adviised that, m order to assist the Association, they, were' willing to make a substantial reduction for their services .this year. This generous offer was gratefully accepted. It was resolved that the Mayor, Mr T. Hobson, shall be an ex-offlcio member of the Association. Mr E. Lancaster wrote stating that, owing to unforeseen circumstances, necessitating his absence from Levin at Show-time, he regretted his inability to act as chief cattle steward. Mr G. C. Tully was appointed in his stead. The following new meinherg were duly elected: Messrs H. W. Christie, A. Smith, A. Bryant, W. G-. Benme, Eric Lynch, W. Davies, V. Cottle, W.Devine. It is desired that as full a response as possible he made by district farmers, in addition to the usual classes a dog show will be held and entries are requested for that in order to make the first venture a notahle one.,-
