ELECTRIC LIGHT SPORTS ON SATURDAY NIGHT.
RECORD NUMBER OF ENTRIES. The' committee of the Levin Amateur Athletic Association have never received ' such a large number of nominations as those which have come in during the past fiOfrtnight for itiieir- first night sports on Saturday. The cycle races, for example, each have a list of contestants numbering eighteen which means that, although all these may not take part, the racing will be very- interesting todeed. Eighteen sprinters have sent in their names tor inclusion in the hundred . yards, including TeMer ajnd Maitland, both, of Wiamganui, and Jenkins,, of Wellington. With such men as these the sprint events will prove a revelation. There is an invitation scratch cycle race, in which Oakley (Masterton), Erieson and Ross (Wanganui), and, Robinson (Wellington) are likely to make things, lively. Fifteen competitors have forwarded their nominations for the 440 yards. , Almost a hundred people Watched last night's practice, and displayed a sustained interest in the proceedings. Every movement of the athletes could be easily followed. If the enthusiasm of the crowd at.last night's initial practice is a majnifest of what Saturday night's attendance will be, then the commiLttee can rest assured their first meeting under electric light Will be completely successful
