DECLINE IN MORALITY

CHARGE AGAINST PAKEATS. SPEECH BY. MR COOLIDGE. NEW YORK, October 29. Parents are being criticised from two different quarters for their failure to instil higher ideals into their children. A Protestant Episcopal Pastoral, issued from New Orleans, deplores the appalling growth of divorce which lowers the standard 'of home life. It also expresses stern' disapproval of the literary revolt against conventions and what are now regarded as old. fashioned moral ideas. An earnest plea is made for more religious training and better control by parents of their children. The President, Mr Calvin Coolidge, in a speech at Washington, made caustic comment on the frivolities of modern life. The wave of juvenile crime and low morality of youth, he said, were' due to a breakdown in the functions of parenthood.
