\ . ANNUAL-. DINGER. The second annual dinner ol the Miranui Football Oluto was held in the Albion Hotel, Shannon, on Saturday, 12th December, Mr H. A. .Seifert presiding over an attendance icrf over 50. , After an excellent dinner served in Mr J. curran's best style, the trophies won during the year were presented as follows: Bes? all round player, gold medal, presented toy Mr H, A. Seifert.—ft. ' Fene. Most consistent 'player, gold lilcdal presented by Mr A. Seifert,—R. Browning. Best forward, hand bag presented by Mr J. Curran.—M., Fairedl. Best back", gold medal presented by Messrs Gillespie, Watson, Eagle, and Croon.—R. K. Wilson. : 'Most improved player, godd medal presented by Mr J. Pedder.—W., J. Coolis. After the toast of the King, Mr Roy Priest proposed the ! Miranui Football Club. In doing so, he stated the Club had'had greater success this year than last year. 1 Next season the Club would have their own ground at the mill, so thajt plenty of practice, could be obtained and he hoped next year to see them win the championship, Mr Gillespie responded on behalf of the Club, and' statell moslt of the Club's success hall been due to their energetic secretary, Mr T. ''Wiaitson. Next year he' hotped, to see the Club at the top of the ladder. Mr Gillespie also thanked the GLub (supporters for the way*' they had rallied round the Club. .There was some good material amongst the j young players who would be 1 assisted in every way next year, Mr S. Eagle proposed the luunorary ocers who had been very generous. He.also thanked Mr R. Rotor ertshaw for his assistance at Union meetings and for what he ; had done for'the club. •■.

Mr V. Croon replied thanking the Club, for the toast and slated they would always, do their best to assist Club to. win the championship. Mr R. Robertshaw also replied and said any assistance he had given had been done willingly to, assist the Club.

•Mr .T. Roibsion proposed "Kindred Clubs, Referees and Unions." die staed that if it were not for kindred clubs there would be no fooitfball. There was often keen feeling between Clubs and that was what was wanted. Keen football produced the good players, and the game could be keen without being rough. There had ' always been good feeling beitween the Miranui and other clubs and he hoped it would continue. Regarding the referees, they usually got all the dirt thrown at them and none of the compliments,' but a referee was there to control the game and give his decisions according to rule. They had everything to lose and nothing to gain. Mr J. Heirnmingson, in replying, said he would like to see the older players come to light and take the whistle \and assist the young players. They wanted friendly rivalry to produce the future All Blacks and keep the name of New Zealand at ihe top, where he hiopedlt would be for many years. ''.'*' In proposing the health of-the A. j and L. Seifert Flaxdressing Co., Mr j. Pedder said he was sorry their old j chief had not yet returned, • and they all' sincerely hoped he "would dome back fit and well. There had, always been a very fine spirit shown '•between'the'firm and the men. The Company had supplied tennis and recreation grounds, reading and billiard rooms, and there was a fine litoarv The Co-operative system of catering and stores had received its start through the a#sistance_ of the company, and he hoped the good feeling between company and men would continue to exist. Mr H. A.' ! Seifert, in replying, stated the firm bad been in existence for over 18' years and he hoped it would never die out. The company desired to do all they could to promote the welfare of the men and keep them happy and contended. The directors were all keen sportsmen, foofcbaUers, scullers and golfers, and would do all they could to assist splort at the. mill. "Our Hoist" was proposed by Mr Gillespie, whoj thanked Mr Curran for doing everything possible to assist the club and giving their rooms for changing, and hot baths after

mjatches. . _ Mr Curran said he. always liked -to- encourage all sport. He would again- donate a trophy and if the Club won the championship he wsosuad provide a dinner for theim. Other toasts proposed • were the Press, Mr Sutherland, responded to try Mr J. Pedder, and that of the "Ladies" and donors of trophies. A vote of thanks-to the chairman bnofught a very plejajsant afternoon to a close.
