SHANNON COUNCIL CHAMBERS.

HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT. The Health Inspector (Mr Huggins) at the request of the Borough Council submitted the following report on the Council Chambers, reading room, library and dwelling:—ln his opmion •the following imiprovements axe necessary:, (a) Provide adequate underfloor ventilation; (b) remove and renew/ all decayed timber; (c) reneAV all decayed spouting and dojwnipipes; (d) renew broken window sash cords; (e) (repair leaks in roof over kitchen and scullery; (f) renew sink board and provide flushing round same; (g) repair, or renew floor in .scullery! (h) repaint walls and ceiling pf scullery; (i) trap ?ink .waste; ■ (j)' -renew piles and re- ' pair floor under engineer's office; (k) make front of building weatherproof; (1) renovate Council Chamber's; (ni) strip and repuper front passage; (n) strip and lvpaner bedroom off - library; (o) strip and repaper kitchen; (p)" renovate Hbiratry; (q) connect Borough water supply for household ;use; (i>) make, existing tanks safe (or remove after connecting waiter). You will notice I have not mentioned drainage. With the present tenant this is working fairly satisfactorily, but with any qther less careful tenant, the drainage Avould give trouhle. The carrying out of the above mentioned improvements Avill extend the life of the present building, and will ibring the premises up to a little higher standard of cleanliness—a maitter wihere the Council should set an example. After reading the above report to the Council on Tuesday- night, tlio Mayor remarked. "I* looks as Ave require a new lock, stock and barrel."
