UNTRANSFERABLE TICKET.
A- RAILWAY PROSECUTION. - ' ; / _ TAJHAPE, Nov. • 20. An Indian fruiterer, Dahya Prema, residing at -Hawera, was charged in the Police Court' here to-day with allowing a partner, Jacent Hira, to use a non-transieraible annual ticket in travelling |rqm Haw era to Auckland. Sergeant O’Neill, who prosecuted, said the Railway‘ I)epailment. regarded the offence as serious,, detection being extremely difficult. Mr Kincafd, for accused, who pleaded guilty; said Prema was accustomed .to travel to Auckland. He took ill and sent his partner instead, telling him to ptay to make the ticket transferable. His partner failed to do so, and on being taxed by an inspector, ..maintained .that he was Prema. The Magistrate, iMr Watson, said a serious, view must be /taken owing to the difficulty of detecting such offences, especially, in the case of Indians and Chinamen. He imposed a flue of £7 10s, with costs. Hira was fined £5. and costs for making a false statement and a similar amount' for travelling on a non-transferable ticket.
