“I am but an infantile student of the spiritual universe," declared Sir Oliver Lodge in the course of a remarkable sermon at the Old Meeting: Church at Birmingham, He said that he had come to the definite conclusion that the spiritual world was one of reality, and that there were grades of existence above men; grades which extended to infinity. . “This world is in touch with them,” said Sir Oliver. "There is communion.” Help is forthcoming, but it is not forced on us. We can rebel and resist; we-need not have it. We are free.” Sir Oliver’s address was on ‘'Prayer and Miracle,” and he asserted that prayer was part of our willingness toreceive this state of communication with the higher existence. ■ "The world is full of miracles,” hesaid. "It is a miracle to move one’s finger, bijit. people want a wonderful event, the intervention of a higher power. “I accept the difference, but what difficulty is- there about that? Yon may say that there are no higher beings. If there are no higher beings what do yon mean by such things as ‘O Qod, our help in ages past”?
