Plaintiff’s story, as TClated by her counsel, was that she had been previously married,, and in 1913 dlvorc. ed her husband. Refusing to take anything from him, she earned her living, as a barmaid, and when the defendant met with an accident which incapacitated him for sir months, she nursed him. They after, wards became engaged .and he gave her a ring. It wasf agreed between, then in 1922 that they should marry in the near future, and the defendant; who did not desire that the woman he -was going to make his wife should be working as a barmaid, prevailed upon her to leave her position. For 18 months the plaintiff then 1 lived on her savings, and made preparation# for the approaching wed. ding. In September, 1924. he told her he wanted to go to Adelaide to- : have his nose operated on, and after he left she did not receive a letter from him nutil November, 1924, when, he wrote intimating that he was sorry to have to disappoint her, and. ' that he was not returning. He concluded with the words: “Well, to cut a long story short, I am married.” , The plaintiff, however, discovered', that he was not then married, but that he married later.
