broke’ cabaret contract. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The story of seven Americans who forsook a life on the ocean wave for that of members of an orchestra at -i Wellington cabaret was unfolded in the local Court to-day. Mary Campbell, proprietress of the cabaret, sued Sims Millar, a former member of the crew of the; U.S.S. Oklahoma, who with six '■comrades, left the ship in order to play in the orchestra. The seven were were engaged at £SO a week and signed a contract not to engage in other business. The agreement set out that they were liable to forfeit £SO should they not comply -with the conditions of the contract. It was alleged Millar brokte the contract and joined the “Kid Boots” Company. The defence was that the men wore deserters, and that defendant was an infant and that the contract was therefore illegal. They said they stayed in a place on the’ hills while on shore leave and dodged the shore patrols. The case was adjourned.
