DEATH OF EURYTHMIC.
PERTH, October 7. The well-known racehorse Eurythmic is dead. Eurythmic at the time of his death was only eight years old,, and was by Eudorus —Bob Cherry. Luring his racing career, which ended in 1923, he ran under (he colours of Mr. E. Lee Steere, a well-known West-Aus-tralian sportsman. Eurythmic began his racing career in the 1918-1919 season, when a two-year-old. starting on six occasions on three of which ho caught the judge’s eye, all when racing in Western Australia. He was twice unplaced and once third, in a five furlong Juvenile Handicap. The
next year lie secured seven wins out of eight starts, being only once unplaced. He won. the West Australian Derby with B,ls up, and carrying- 7.9 at the same meeting dead-heated with Rivoli (6.13) in the Perth Cup of two miles. He followed this up by winning the C.B. Cox Stakes (weight-for-age) of one mile and a-lialf. He was then given a rest for four months, and next won the Osborne Stakes (one mile and three furlongs) and the St. Leger (one mile and three furlongs); •rl his races being confined to WestArstralia. As a four-year-old Eurythmic did oven better, starting in thirteen races and winning twelve, on the odd occasion being fourth in the Melbourne Cup. His wins this year included the Memsie'Stakes (nine furlongs). October Stakes (15 miles), Caulfield Stakes (nine furlongs), Caulfield, Cup (15 miles), Melbourne Stakes (1J miles) 4 C. B. Fisher Plate 05 ntfles), Essendon Stakes (IS miles). Governor’s Plate (IS miles). King’s Plate (two miles), Autumn Stakes (IS miles), Sydney Cup (two miles) and the Cumberland Stakes (two miles), all in the Eastern States. Twelve starts are to his credit the following year, of which he won seven, was second on one occasion, twice third,, and twice unplaced, one
of the latter being in the Melbourne Cup of that year. His wins included tlie Caulfield Stakes. Melbourne Stakes, and Memsie Stakes for the second time, the Herbert Power Stakes (one, mile and three furlongs),
St. George Stakes (nine furlongs), Futurity Stakes (seven furlongs), and the C. M. Lloyd Stakes (one mile).
Eu rythmic’s racing career ended with the 1922-1923 season, when he was six years old. That year he was not so fortunate as in the past, and though placed on every occasion—he started eight limes—he only won twice, but •,vas live times second and once third, f 1 is v, ins were the Memsie Stakes and the Caulfield Stakes, both of which ■aces he captured for the third year in succession. Of a grand total of 4 7 races he won 30i, four times third, and only six times unplaced. His total winnings wore £36,891.
