BRITAIN'S FATE DEPENDS ON ADVERTISING.
MR. BALDWIN ON ONLY WAY IN COMMERCIAL STRUGGLE. LONDON, July 16. The Prime Minister and the Dean of Windsor both helped in the cause of advertising- during- the week-end. In a message to the British advertising Convention at Harrogate—the first of its kind—Mr. Baldwin wrote:— Tn my opinion, the future ability of this country to hold its own in the straggle for commercial prosperity of the world's markets will largely depend on its progress in the art of advertising and salesmanship. Make Harrogate a landmark in the history of British advertising. Preaching at Christcliurch, Harrogete, the Dean of Windsor said ad-r vertisers had a great power in their hands, and consequently, a solemn responsibility. It was striking how readily British advertisers had recognised that their profession stood upon a moral character. No honourable publicity man would willingly propagate what he knew to be untrue, and in truthfully placing before the world all that could be said in favour of the goods for which, they were agents they were honour-t ably fulfilling their calling.
