HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. | At Tuesday’s meeting of the Man--1 agement Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, those present were i Messrs Rimmer (chairman), Anderson, McMillan, Procter, Frechtling, McDonald, Robertshaw, Hannan, and the secretary (Mr Carmichael). The secretary of the Combined , Union advised tnat the lvia Toa-Wan-derer match is to start at 2.15 p.m. on Saturday next, in order to allow the Wanderers players to catch their train home—Received. With regard to Foxton Juniors fading to appear at, Shannon on Saturday last in order, to play the Shan non Juniors, Mr Robertsliaw; considered that, although he did not want to take an undue advantage oi the Foxton players, there was-nothing to prevent their appearance on Saturday. The explanation of the Foxton team that they had received no official notification of the match, seemed to him a feeble excuse. As they were in the finals of the northern end, he thought they would naturally have taken the ' trouble to find out what, exactly, the position was. Mr Rimmer stated that Mr Hutchenshad reported that the Foxton Club had received no official advice of the game. The secretary remarked that so lar as an official notification was concerned, at least- 40 per cent, of the matches plaveil during'the season had been notified only through the press. Mr Robertshaw stated that, althoiigh Shannon Juniors had not been officially advised of the fixture, the secretary had -made a point of ringing the Union secretary to find out what the position was. The Shannon Club were anxious to win on their merits, but they would not be able to- do tins after Saturday next as three of its players would not be available aftei that date. Mr Rimmer thought the committee should pass a resolution to the effect that if the usual notification had appeared in the press, the Foxton Juniors should forfeit the game. Mr Anderson said there had been far too much -of that sort of thing going on throughout the season. H,e accordingly moved a resolution, sec r onded by Mr Hannan, that if the Foxtoin-Shannon Junior match was advertised or shown in any way through the Foxton paper the Shannon team should win by their -opponents’ default.—Carried.' In the event of no notification the match is to be played at Shannon on Saturday next. If on the other hand Foxton did default then th,e final game between Shannon and Weraroa Juniors will take place at Otaki on 3rd Mr Anderson said he wished Mi Sloan, the Referees’ Association representative had been present, because he, the speaker, desired to ask one or two pertinent questions in re-o-ard to referees’ attendance at matches As an example lie quoted last Saturday’s Hui Mai—County game, when the referee had failed tot make his appeaarnce, due, it was said to his not having been notified. More especially .in Foxton had this-state of affairs been in evidence right throughout the season, and it had been t he cause -of a lot of trouble and ill-feel-ing between spectators and playeis. Mr Anderson said he reckoned the referees were n>oit being properly advised and he moved that the Referees Association be written to and _ asked why Mr Smith did not referee m last Saturday’s, match, although appointed—Carried. . Secretaries of clubs holding trophies are asked to forward them to the Union secretary, without delay.
