DERELICT MANAWATU BRIDGE.
A DANGER TO SHIPPING. An unusual letter for a County Council came before the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday when it was called upon to remove from the Manawatu river the wrecked span of the bridge at Shannon. Tile letter was from the Foxton Harbour Board which gave lourteen days’ notice to the County “to remove the submerged portion of the Shannon Bridge, as it would eventually become a serious menace to shipping.” The Engineer said they had been over the river four times but could not locate the bridge. The locality had been pointed out in a general way.
cr. Barber thought this was a serious matter as in the event of damage to shipping the Council would be liable.
The Engineer was directed to treat the matter as urgent and have it attended to.
