"A THIEF IN PARADISE."
UNUSUALLY FINE PICTURE. "A Thief in Paradise," the First National attraction showing at the Maoriland Theatre on Wednesday evening, has. an unusually gripping story which, told against almost any bajekgrojund, would be outstanding in its appeal, but Fiti;maurice, with his usual love of lavish pictorial effects; has provided a wide variety of backgrounds and novelties. There is the unusual girls' polo game played by two teams of beauties clad in bathing suits, and the novel undersea dance pageant which marks the turning point in the story. A thrilling runaway liorse episode and a hand-to-hand fight on the floor of the sea which is ended a man-eating shark, are other ingredients which have been skilfully incorporated in the story. Acting honours go to Ronald Colman, the young actor under a long term contract. Be plays the role of Blake, the derelict who masquerades as another man. Doris Kenyon is the girl he loves and marries, and Aileen Pringle gives a splendid characterization as the Eurasian girl. Splendid portrayals are also given by Cla/ufie Gillingvvater, Alex Francis, John Patrick and the ottter members of the supporting cast.
