SHANNON CHORAL SOCIETY.

VISIT TO TOKOMARU

The Shannon Choral Society journeyed to Tokomaru on Tuesday last to give a concert in aid of Anglican Church Guild. Notwithstanding the very cold night and a good deal ol sickness there was a good audience.

Mr Andrew, the conductor of the society, said briefly that a good many of the residents had been disappointed by not being able to get down to Shannon to hear the cantata, “Esther,” on account of the floods, so the Society decided to give several of the choruses and solos that night, lie also apologised for the absence of Rev. Mr Parnell and Mr J. R. Whyte on account of sickness. The first half of the programme was taken from the cantata “Esther.” The choir acquitted themselves well in the choruses, especially in the last three and judging by the rounds of

applause the audience were very much pleased. The solos and duets were taken by Misses Aim. and Bob inson, and Messrs' Andrew, Hunter, and Philip. The second half was a miscellaneous programme and every item was encored so much did the audience appreciate them. The humorous quartettes, laughing chorus and B'asso Profunda caused a good deal of amusement, the actions being carried out very well. Following is the programme:—Quartette, “Laughing Chorus,” Misses Quarrie and Messrs Andrew and Quarrie; violin solo, “Canzonetta,” Miss Pickles; song, “My Little Irish Girl,” Mr H. Hunter; recitation, “The Archery of William Tell,” Miss Capes; song, “The Break of Day,” Mrs Tyler; musical monologue, “Shut Up,” Mr Andrew; song, “The Sunshine of Your Smile,” Mr Philip; song, “Waiata Poi,” Miss Aim; violin solo, “Home, Sweet Home,” Miss Pickles; song, “Because,” Mr H. Hunter; humorous quartette, “Basso Profundo,” Misses Quarrie, Messrs Andrew and Quarrie; National Anthem.

The floor was cleared and a dune.’ was hMd and the young people had a very good time. Hie choir was entertained to supper by the ladies for which Mr Andrew proposed a very hearty vote of thanks which was carried with musical honours.
