The Tbwn Clerk informed the Council on Tuesday evening that 95 water connections had been made up to date.

The annual meeting of shareholders of the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co." will be held in the Parish Hall (to-morrow) Saturday.

From enquiries made yesterday at the 'Palmerston North hospital it was learned that the (condition of his Worship the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) was improving. '

Mrs 3. V. Burns, .of the local teaching staff, has been granted a month’s leave of absence, to enable her to visit her mother and sister in Australia, the latter being seriously ill.

The capital value of the Borough of Shannon for rating purposes for the year 1925-26 is £194,625, as against £190,637 for 1924-25, an increase of £3988.

To enable residents of the Manawatu,. to visit the American Fleet now at Wellington the Railway Department will run a special train on Sunday next from Palmerston North stopping at all stations as required between there and Paekakariki. The train leaves Palmerston North at 8.30 a.in. and Shannon at 9.8 a.m., arriving, at Wellington at 11.38 a.m. The train leaves Wellington on the return trip at 5.15 p.m. and is due at Shannon at 7.56 p.m. The return fare from Shannon is. first class 11s, second class 7s 6c(.

At the meeting of the Hiorowhemm County Council on Saturday, three tenders were received for the annual maintenance contracts, in the Tokomaru Riding, that for the northern end calling for the supply of 1500 yards of metal and that for the southern end 2200 yards. Cr. Barber said it was considered that more tenders would have come forward if the conditions as to: bonds and deposit were not so stringent for the metalling. The Engineer said they were only the usual conditions, and the Council knew how certain contractors had treated them in the past at that end of the district.. No Bondsmen were required. Cr. Barber maintained that the conditions prevented contractors coming forward. The tenders were opened in committee, and after consideration were referred to Cr. Barber and the Engineer with power to act
