CONCRETE BRIDGE AT EKETAHUNA
OPENED BY PHIME MINISTEH. EKETAHUNA, Aug. 10. A new concrete arch bridge at Ekeluliuna was officially opened by the Prime Minister on Saturday afternoon. There was a big assemblage and the proceedings were very enthusiastic. i Mr (Mates got a warm receptiou. The keynote oi his speech was the necessity to develop the country and encourage population and so obtain a greater distribution of tile ffiad at present carried and the development of production with special attention to the outlying districts. Many hack roads were nut efficient and if producers saved a farthing on butterfat jn transit that was added to the wealth and resources of the country. Those who had money must make it work, and those who worked for wages must give a fair return in labour. Our part in the Empire was to manage our own affairs well and to absorb as many as possible of our kinsfolk overseas. The Government aimed at giving service in all departments, with attention to administrative costs and the elimination of waste. He indicated that the Highways Board would probably be able to give greater assistance to small boroughs. He could not give on this occasion the 3 policy he was going to the country at the elections on. but fie hoped it would be sufficiently broad in vision to secure the support of the electors. Mr and Mrs Coates were entertained at a dinner, following which the Prime Minister received several deputations and left by train for Wellington.
