PIGS.
THAT UNTHRIFTY PIG It often happens that in a pen of pigs there are two or three which arc? behind the others; They have not grown like the others and they are not thriving- as well. What is the reason? They wet'e rather weaker to begin with and, being weaker, have always been pushed away from the trough by their follows; consequently, they have not had the food, and, while they are with the same pigs, they never will. it is therefore advisable that tile weaker pigs should be removed to another pen containing pigs of their!own sice and strength. It is surprising how the pigs begin to go ahead in their pew surroundings. This, with another rather similar one. is the commonest cause of unthriftiness in young pigs, the other being that the pigs have ougrown their trough, and consequently some have been pushed out by the others. The remedy is, of course, a bigger trough; but it is no use waiting till some of the pigs become unthrifty before changing their trough. The better plan is to provide them with a Trough which is large enough to accommodate them for some time ahead as they grow.
