ROBBERY UNDER ARMS.

NEARLY £2OOO STOLEN. BERTH, August 6. An armed robber near Manjimup, held up the manager and accountant of the National Bank, who were taking £1985 to the timber mills at Pemberton to pay the employees. The officials resisted and the bandit, after shooting the manager, Mr Barber in the hand, seized the money and escaped on horseback to the bush. A search has so far proved resultless. (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) PERTH, August 6.

Barber and the accountant, Leenian, were proceeding to Pemberton on a railway tricycle driven by an employee. The robbery occurred in a cutting where a log was placed across the line, causing a stoppage. They, were ordered to put up their hands. Barber was attempting to draw a revolver when he was. shot in the hand by the robber. The injury necessitated the amputation of a finger. The robber, covering the party with an automatic, secured their revolvers and hag of money. He then ordered the trio to march in front of him. After marching some distance he slipped into the bush and disappeared. Always previously a policeman had accompanied the company’s officials conveying money to Pemberton.
